Speaking to reporters on Monday, Karnataka Home Minister G Parameshwara termed the incident a lapse and ordered an immediate inquiry into the matter. He said, “Our officials went to the jail last night and investigated the incident. A total of seven officials have been suspended in connection with the incident. This is a lapse in the jail and should not be repeated.”

The viral picture reportedly surfaced after a prison staff member clicked on it to share it with his wife and she later posted it on social media. Prison authorities have come under fire for the VIP treatment given to a murder accused who was allegedly involved in the killing of his fan Renukaswamy.

Meanwhile, Shiva Gowda, Renukaswamy's father, termed the news shocking and said the actor does not feel guilty for killing his son. He said, “We trusted the police and the judicial system, but this news is shocking. He also urged the state government to take action against the actor and demanded a CBI probe. It looks like he does not feel guilty for committing any crime.”

Actor Darshan was arrested on June 11 along with his close friend Pavitra Gowda for their alleged involvement in the murder of his fan. Renukaswamy, the victim, was killed on June 9 in a shed used as a parking space for impounded vehicles in southwest Bengaluru and his body was dumped in a storm drain 10 km away.

The motive for the crime, according to police, was that Renukaswamy, who lived in Chitradurga, 200 kilometres from Bengaluru, was trolling Gowda on social media platforms, infuriating her and Darshan.
