Sanjay Roy from Calcutta, accused of rape and murder, protests his innocence in the lie detector test, appears to be insecure and anxious

The lie detector test on Sanjay Roy by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) found that his claim of innocence in the rape and murder case of a trainee doctor was “false and unconvincing”.

Roy, a social worker, is accused of raping and murdering the 31-year-old doctor, who was in her second year of postgraduate studies. Her body was subsequently found in the seminar room of the state-run RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata.

Earlier, he reportedly confessed to his crime and gave details of the sequence of events to the Kolkata police. However, after the case was transferred to the CBI by the Kolkata High Court, he started claiming his innocence.

According to CBI sources informed by the Times of IndiaRoy appeared “unsettled and anxious” during the two-hour questioning. His lawyer accused the agency of keeping the defense in the dark about the timing of the test.

While the CBI questioned Roy on the basis of numerous pieces of evidence recovered, Roy cited 'alibis' in his defence. He claimed that the victim was already dead when he reached the seminar hall and then ran away in fear.

The CBI is also investigating the college's former principal, Dr Sandip Ghosh, for financial irregularities during his tenure and in the rape and murder case, as he had allegedly previously tried to downplay the crime.
