Seven officials of Parappana Agrahara prison suspended for VIP treatment of actor Darshan

BENGALURU: Seven officials of the Parappana Agrahara Central Jail were suspended within hours after photos and videos of imprisoned actor Darshan Thogudeepa The cases currently lodged in Parappana Agrahara Central Jail went viral.

The suspended officials are Sharanabasava Amingad, LS Thippeswamy, Prabhu Khandelwal, Srinath Talawar, Basappa, Sampat Kumar and Venkappa Kodti. These officials are jailers, deputy jailers and head wardens.

Home Minister Dr G Parameshwara admitted the failure of the prison officials and told reporters on Monday that seven prison officials had been suspended and the remaining senior officials of the prison would be transferred or suspended after submission of an inquiry report. He also did not rule out the possibility of Darshan He was shifted to another jail and another FIR was filed against him for violating the rules of the jail manual.

Two police constables, Anand Reddy and Somashekar, were sent to jail on Sunday evening. During the investigation, which continued till 1.30 am on Monday, the officials found a blatant lapse in the conduct of the seven suspended officers. Meanwhile, the Director General of Prisons, Malini Krishnamurthy, visited the jail premises on Monday morning.

Immediately after the incident came to light, the Minister of the Interior telephoned the Director General of the prison and instructed him to conduct a thorough investigation.

Surprisingly, the CCB officials raided the jail on Saturday and returned empty-handed without taking anything. Responding to this, Parameshwar said that this is also part of the investigation and we are checking whether the jail officials had any first-hand information about the raid so that they could have kept the mobile phones and other items safe at the time of the raid.
