Update on SUGA DUI case: Police say BTS member’s electric scooter didn’t need a license plate; report

SUGA, the popular BTS member and K-pop rapper who was recently involved in a driving under the influence (DUI) case, recently appeared for the first police questioning and the police have given new updates on the case. According to the latest reports, the police have said that SUGA's electric scooter did not require a license plate.

On August 26, 2024, three days after SUGA appeared for the first round of police investigation and questioning on August 23, police provided an update on the BTS member's DUI case.

According to the latest report by South Korean media outlet TV Chosun, an officer at the Yongsan Police Station issued a statement announcing that the BTS member's case is expected to be forwarded to prosecutors in the coming week.

One of the biggest revelations was the police handling SUGA's DUI case's remark that SUGA's electric scooter was not required to have a license plate. This new development has quelled any new controversy surrounding the BTS member's vehicle. They also added that there will be no further investigation and concluded with that.

For those who don't know, SUGA was caught under the influence of alcohol on an electric scooter on the evening of August 6, 2024, while returning from an event. While cornering, he allegedly lost his balance and fell. A nearby patrol officer helped him, but when he noticed alcohol on his breath, he decided to take SUGA to the nearest police station.

Later, SUGA took a breathalyzer test and police were never able to confirm the alcohol content. Some reports claimed it was 0.227%. These reports were soon dismissed. A few days later, a new video from a security camera near the D-Day rapper's house confirmed that SUGA's claims that he rode an electric scooter for 500m and fell in front of his house were true.

In the latest developments, SUGA posted a second handwritten apology letter on Weverse yesterday, August 25. SUGA again apologized for the drunk driving incident, saying he damaged memories created with BTS and apologized for it.
