Viral celebrity doppelgänger trend leaves fans amazed because they thought they were ‘exactly the same person’

We often recognize celebrities by their looks on TV, in movies and online, but a viral trend involving doppelgangers may have you doubting your confidence.

We're not talking about similar noses or smiles, but real doppelgängers – stars who you might think are “definitely the guy from that other movie!” only to find out they're someone else entirely.

The trend started when a Twitter user used the platform to share a photo of Criminal Minds Actress Rochelle Aytes next to Barbie Margot Robbie claimed they looked like the same person but had different skin colors.

What followed was a whole host of other stars who looked similar, with people often having trouble realizing that the pictures were of two different people.

Javier Bardem and Jeffrey Dean Morgan

One of them is the Oscar-winning actor from Skyfallthe other is the critically acclaimed star of The Walking Dead, However, on Twitter, Bardem and Morgan were described as “the same person.”

The revelation that they are actually two different people has left fans of their respective films stunned. One person admitted: “For a long time I thought that Javier Bardem in PS I love you. I should have just googled the cast and saved myself the confusion.”

Another wrote: “I thought this was the same person the whole time! But have we ever seen them in the same room together?”

Rosario Dawson and Zoe Saldana

Dawson and Saldana are also featured in the doppelgänger thread. Both are known in Hollywood for their work on the big and small screen.

Dawson is known for her roles in 2005's Rent And Sin Cityand has recently appeared in the Netflix series DopeSick and Disney+'s Ahsoka.

In the meantime, Saldana was working on Guardians of the Galaxy and the Avatar Films – in which their appearance was obscured by colorful make-up.

Saldana played a human in the popular Netflix series From the ground upbut apparently that wasn't enough to stop people from confusing her and Dawson, with one Twitter user saying, “I keep confusing Rosario and Zoe.”

Keira Knightley and Natalie Portman

Two Hollywood classics – and yet some people still can’t tell them apart.

Knightley, who in pirates of the Caribbeanand Portman from Black Swan and Marvel's Thorhave been compared for a long time, so it's no surprise that they appeared in the viral thread.

In fact, Portman has previously commented on their similarities.

In an interview with Variety, she admitted that she is “constantly” mistaken for Knightley, but that she finds it “very flattering.”

Taylor Russell and Jenna Ortega

While Ortega has made a name for himself through Wednesday, Scream and now Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, Russell starred in films such as Bones and everything And Escape room.

Both stars have appeared in a Netflix series – Russell plays the lead role in the science fiction series Lost in space – their similarity to each other is just another thing they have in common.

One Twitter user shared his thoughts on their similarities, writing, “Yeah nah god am I running out of faces or something lol… why am I just noticing now that Taylor Russell and Jenna Ortega look like twins?”

Jessica Chastain and Bryce Dallas Howard

Zero Dark Thirty, The Help, Molly's Game.…these are just a few of the titles Chastain has appeared in throughout her career, but in a TikTok video shared in 2021, she lamented, “When you spend 20 years building a career and they still think you're on Jurassic Park.”

The reference is to Howard's role in the dinosaur franchise, and Chastain admitted that the two actors are often confused for each other.

The list goes on: Lili Reinhart and Brittany Murphy, as well as Leighton Meester and Minka Kelly are also among the stars who have been compared to each other – and with new celebrities constantly emerging, the question is who will be next.
