The murders occurred on the morning of July 9 in a trailer park on Alipaz Street in San Juan Capistrano.

The victim's niece informed police after the accused, 41-year-old Joseph Brandon Gerdvil, sent her photos of his mutilated parents, CBS News reported.

Gerdvil got out of the golf cart and threw a shovel at the police vehicle. He then walked toward the police car with a metal water meter in his hand, the report said.

Gerdvil, wearing blood-soaked clothing, was shot five times by police before he collapsed to the ground. When more police arrived at the scene, he was handcuffed.

When he was arrested, Gerdvil said, “I love you” and “I'm sorry you have to die.” He is also said to have started singing to the police officers who were treating him while he was being treated for his wounds.

Gerdvil was charged with two counts of murder and was in stable condition, the report said.
