Emergency services respond to reported gas leak

A section of 8th Street SW in Altoona is closed Monday morning after a construction crew struck a gas line near the intersection of 8th and 17th avenues. Lt. Alyssa Wilson of the Altoona Police Department said the road is closed for about a mile between Scenic View Boulevard and Venbury Drive. Seventeenth Avenue is also closed from 4th Street SW to the railroad crossing south of 8th Street SW. This is a developing story. ALTOONA, Iowa —

A section of 8th Street SW in Altoona is closed Monday morning after a construction crew struck a gas line near the intersection of 8th and 17th Avenues.

Lt. Alyssa Wilson of the Altoona Police Department said the road is closed for about a mile between Scenic View Boulevard and Venbury Drive. Seventeenth Avenue is also closed from 4th Street SW to the railroad crossing south of 8th Street SW.
