Richmond-based gun shop and shooting range Colonial Shooting Academy closes

HENRICO COUNTY, Va. – The Colonial Shooting Academy will close in September after more than a decade on West Broad Street in Henrico County, according to a notice on the gun shop and shooting range’s website.

“CSA is closing due to market volatility, inflation and other factors and the process is moving quickly,” the message said. “CSA's 60,000 square foot facility is being offered for sale and the contents of the building will be auctioned in mid-October.”

The Colonial Shooting Academy is scheduled to close on Wednesday, September 4th.

“It has been our pleasure to serve the community,” General Manager Thomas Lacy said in the released statement. “Our customers and staff have made this endeavor extremely fulfilling and memorable. We know that the Colonial Shooting Academy has made a positive contribution to our home state and beyond.”

The Colonial Shooting Academy opened in 2012 in a building that once housed a furniture store.

When it opened, some neighbors complained about the loud gunshots from the shooting range.

“I'm all for people learning how to use their firearms properly,” a neighbor told CBS 6 in 2012. “But not at the expense of noise in the neighborhood.”

The company told CBS 6 it would address the noise issue once it heard from community members.
