Suspect arrested 12 years after murder

Palm Beach County officials have arrested a suspect in the stabbing and killing of a man in western Boca Raton more than 12 years ago.

Peterson Eliantus, 37, is charged with second-degree murder in connection with the killing of 25-year-old Anastasio Caceres, a West Boca Raton man who died in August 2012.

Eliantus appeared before a Palm Beach County judge on Monday morning and was denied bail.

According to court documents obtained by WFLX, Eliantus and Caceres got into an argument outside a home in the 22,000 block of Southwest 54th Way in Boca Raton on the evening of August 6, 2012.

During the fight, Eliantus stabbed Caceres multiple times, investigators said.

According to the report, Caceres said during the attack: “'Yo, bro, did you really stab me, bro?'”

Caceres was taken to a local hospital where he died from stab wounds to the abdomen and chest.

When the original probable cause affidavit was filed in October 2012, Palm Beach County officials said Eliantus “fled the area and had not been seen by his family, friends, neighbors or officials familiar with the area.”

At the time, the report added that Palm Beach County Criminal Investigation “received information that Peterson Eliantus had fled to another area outside of Palm Beach County.”

More than 12 years later, Peterson was arrested at 10 a.m. Sunday morning in the 150 block of Southeast 1st Avenue in downtown Fort Lauderdale, according to his police report.

No further information has been released about how Peterson was tracked down.
