Retired FBI agent killed in EPISD police shooting at Franklin High

A retired FBI agent has been identified by his family as the man killed in a police shooting at Franklin High School during an altercation with an El Paso Independent School District police officer.

Julio Cordero, 56, was a father of four and a decorated federal agent who struggled with deteriorating mental health after leaving the FBI, Cordero's brother, Marco Cordero, told Channel 9-KTSM.

The FBI El Paso Division confirmed that Special Agent Julio Cordero worked in the office from 1996 to 2019. “We are saddened by the loss of one of our own,” said spokeswoman Special Agent Jeanette Harper.
