Two high school students killed in ATV crash, officials say

TRANSYLVANIA COUNTY, NC (WHNS/Gray News) – Authorities say two high school students were killed in an ATV accident in North Carolina on Saturday.

The North Carolina Highway Patrol said the boys were identified as Layne Jones and Jayden Reynaldo.

According to police, the two were riding a 2015 Polaris Sportsman quad on Old Wagon Road in Transylvania County when they went off the road on a curve and crashed into a tree.

Both victims attended Rosman High School.

The Transylvania County School District released a statement about the loss of the two popular students.

“It is with heavy hearts that we share the tragic news that two of our beloved Rosman High School students have died in a devastating accident,” the district said. “Our community is devastated by an unimaginable loss and our thoughts and prayers are with the families and friends of these remarkable young people.”

Officials from the Transylvania County Sheriff's Office also left a heartfelt message to the victims' friends and family: “Our prayers are with all of you during this difficult time.”
