Inmate found dead in Dane County Jail

An inmate at the Dane County Jail was found dead early Monday morning, the sheriff's office said.

Officers, jail medical personnel and Madison Fire Department paramedics were unable to resuscitate the person after he was discovered around 1 a.m. in the “intake unit” at the Public Safety Building in downtown Madison, the sheriff's office said.

Detectives from the sheriff's office and the coroner's office are investigating the death.

A sheriff's office spokesman did not immediately respond to an email seeking more details, including the person's name, age and gender, as well as the reason and duration of their detention.
