Queen Norwood: Victim of SUV crash in Stockton identified

It is unclear who was behind the wheel at the time of the accident. According to police, there does not appear to be an adult in the car.

STOCKTON, Calif. – The 11-year-old girl who died Sunday morning when an SUV loaded with teenagers crashed into a tree in Stockton has been identified.

The San Joaquin County Coroner's Office identified her as Queen Norwood of Stockton.

According to police, the accident occurred around 7:45 a.m. Sunday in front of St. Mary's High School in the 5800 block of North El Dorado Street.

The police found six minors at the crime scene:

  • An 11-year-old girl (Queen Norwood)
  • A 13-year-old girl
  • A 13-year-old boy
  • A 14-year-old girl
  • A 14-year-old girl
  • A 15-year-old girl

According to police, Norwood died of her injuries in hospital. The other five minors were hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries.

“This is very concerning. These are all very young children between the ages of 11 and 15, and unfortunately one of them succumbed to his injuries. This is disturbing. This is very concerning,” said Omer Edhah, Stockton Police spokesman. “And our message to the public is: be careful where your children are, be careful where your car keys are, be careful who you give your keys to, and just be cautious all around – you definitely don't want to be in a situation like this again.”

It is unclear who was driving at the time of the accident. Police say it does not appear that an adult was in the car. They are now trying to determine where the minors were sitting in the car when it crashed.
