Children had to get off the school bus at the wrong stop because it was the end of the line, the family says

NEW BRAUNFELS, Texas (KSAT) – The start of the school year in a Texas independent school district has been bumpy.

A family in New Braunfels has lost trust in their school administration after just one week of school.

Two elementary school students and their parents said the bus driver let their children get off at the wrong stop, leaving them without a ride home.

Sheila and Isaac Dimas said they were grateful to the stranger who helped their two sons, 9-year-old Darien and 7-year-old Donovan.

Darien and Donovan have been taking the bus to school for years without any problems.

They never imagined they would be left in a situation that left them “confused and angry” and “kind of scared.”

On the third day of the school year, their bus reached its last stop.

“And we are at one of the first bus stops,” said Sheila Dimas.

But Darien and Donovan were still on the bus.

Darien said he was very confused.

“I wanted to tell them you missed our stop and asked, 'Can we go back to school?' He said, 'No, you can't. You can't do that,'” he said.

The boys had no cell phones to call home and no idea where they were. The two did as they were told and got off the bus.

Fortunately, another child saw what had happened to the boys and told them to come home with him so his mother could help.

The mother then called the school and the school contacted Darien and Donovan’s parents.

“My heart was heavy. The school apologized profusely. I haven't heard anything from the head of the transportation department. I tried to reach her a few times and left her messages,” said Sheila Dimas.

This incident followed another incident in which a three-year-old preschool child was left on a bus.

“We need to feel safe, otherwise we wouldn't be able to send our children to school. Why don't we just homeschool them? If I have to worry about my children's safety, they have no reason to go to school,” said Isaac Dimas.
