Gasoline prices in Florida fall ahead of holiday weekend

In Florida, average gasoline prices were 2 cents per gallon lower on Monday compared to the previous week, with prices in parts of the state falling to just under $3 per gallon.

The automobile club AAA reported that drivers in Florida paid an average of $3.27 per gallon for regular unleaded gasoline, up from $3.29 the week before.

“Low oil prices have kept prices at the pump in check,” AAA spokesman Mark Jenkins said in a prepared statement. “Floridians planning to travel over Labor Day weekend will likely find the lowest gas prices for the holiday weekend in three years.”

The average price was 16 cents lower than a month ago and 45 cents lower than a year ago. The national average price was $3.35 per gallon on Monday, according to AAA.

The lowest average prices in Florida were in the Panhandle, including $3.02 per gallon in the Crestview-Fort Walton Beach area, $3.06 in the Pensacola area and $3.07 in the Panama City area. In comparison, drivers in the West Palm Beach-Boca Raton area paid an average of $3.44 per gallon, according to AAA.
