Teenager arrested after traffic accident with personal injuries in Wheat Ridge in May

The suspect is facing 10 charges, including five counts of reckless assault with a vehicle and five counts of assault with a vehicle while under the influence of alcohol, police said.

WHEAT RIDGE, Colorado – A teenager was arrested on a charge of violent assault in connection with a May traffic crash that seriously injured five people, Wheat Ridge police said.

The accident occurred on May 14 at around 2 p.m. at the intersection of Kipling Street and West 51st Place. Police said at the time that seven people were injured in the accident, which involved three cars. Five of those people were taken to the hospital with serious injuries, police said.

Police said Monday that a juvenile suspect was arrested in connection with the accident. The suspect faces 10 charges, including five counts of reckless assault with a vehicle and five counts of assault with a vehicle while under the influence of alcohol, according to police. Because the offender is under 18, his name is not being released.

According to police, the investigation revealed that the driver was traveling more than 80 mph on Kipling Street, where the speed limit is 40 mph, before the crash. Police also said the driver disregarded a red light before colliding with two other cars.
