Booneville man back in prison on shooting charges

BOONEVILLE, Mississippi (WCBI) – A Booneville man who made national headlines after being charged with murder at age 14 has been arrested again.

This time because of a murder that happened last week.

Booneville Police have arrested 21-year-old Jayce Bryson West of Baldwin.

He is considered a suspect in connection with a shooting last week.

According to Police Chief Michael Ramey, a gun battle broke out at the August Circle Apartments last Monday evening around 6:45 p.m.

18-year-old Damarion Calvin from Tupelo was killed in a vehicle there. Another person was injured.

In 2017, when he was just 14 years old, West was charged with felony murder along with two other teenagers for shooting a 70-year-old Baldwyn man.

He was also arrested in Booneville a little over a year ago for the rape of a minor.

In January of this year, he was arrested for the felony charge of possession of marijuana with a firearm.

In connection with his recent arrest in connection with last week's murder, West was charged with first-degree murder, three counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and shooting at a motor vehicle.

He was not granted bail.
