Lawrence man arrested after chase and threats against police

A 49-year-old Lawrence man was arrested Monday afternoon after a chase in North Lawrence. The Douglas County Sheriff's Office said the incident began around 2:40 p.m. Monday near Second and Locust Streets when a deputy attempted to stop the man, who was wanted for questioning in a domestic incident and driving without a valid license. During the pursuit, the man rammed the deputy's patrol vehicle and attempted to evade arrest by driving through a residential yard and damaging a fire hydrant. His vehicle eventually came to rest in a field. He was taken to LMH Health for evaluation and then transported to the Douglas County Jail. No injuries were reported. He is charged with aggravated assault on a police officer, among other offenses.

According to the Douglas County Sheriff's Office, the incident began around 2:40 p.m. Monday near the corner of Second and Locust streets when a deputy attempted to stop the man, who was wanted for questioning in a domestic dispute and driving without a valid license.

During the pursuit, the man rammed the officer's patrol car and attempted to evade arrest by driving through a residential yard and damaging a fire hydrant.

His vehicle eventually came to a stop in a field.

He was taken to LMH Health for evaluation and then transported to the Douglas County Jail.

No injuries were reported.

He is accused, among other things, of grievous bodily harm to a police officer.
