Six people arrested after kidnapping in Danbury

DANBURY, CT (WFSB) – Six people were arrested following a kidnapping Sunday afternoon in Danbury.

According to police, officers responded to the Clapboard Ridge Road area near Dogwood Lane at around 5:40 p.m. because of a disturbance.

When they arrived, witnesses said, three men got out of a van, began attacking another man, pushed him into the van and fled.

Officers spotted the vehicle on Clapboard Ridge Road and attempted to stop it, but the driver sped away.

The vehicle was then located on Cowperthwaite Street, where officers found two victims inside, both bound with duct tape and one had been attacked with a baseball bat.

Both victims were taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

According to witnesses, six suspects left the area on foot. Officers began a search and four of the six were quickly arrested.

Three officers sustained non-life-threatening injuries during the search and arrest. The final two suspects were found in a short-term rental home in Roxbury.

The suspects were identified as 23-year-old Angel Borrero, 22-year-old Reynaldo Diaz, 23-year-old Anthony Pena, 26-year-old Josue Romero, 21-year-old Ricardo Estrada and 18-year-old Michael Rivas. They all live in Florida.

They were charged with a number of charges, including first-degree assault, first-degree kidnapping and reckless endangerment. Borrero is also charged with reckless driving, police pursuit and evading responsibility.

He is held on bail of $2,000,000, while the others are held on bail of $1,000,000.

It appears that the victims were targeted, but the exact motive is unknown.
