Food poisoning incident in Mathura, around 50 people in hospital

Around 50 people, including women and children, were hospitalized here with suspected food poisoning after eating doughnuts made from buckwheat flour, officials said on Tuesday (August 27, 2024).

“The incident occurred on the night of Monday (August 26) and Tuesday during the Janmashtami celebrations,” they said.

“Last night we ate buckwheat flour doughnuts. After that I started vomiting and had a burning sensation in my stomach,” said Priyanka, a teenager who was admitted to the government hospital.

Parkham Singh, a resident of Parkham village who accompanied a patient, said people started complaining of dizziness, vomiting and chills after eating the doughnuts.

“The Kuttu Ka Atta (Buckwheat flour) was bought from a shop in the village,” he said.

About 50 people from my village have fallen ill, he added.

“My wife can no longer stand, she is very weak, almost unconscious,” added Mahesh, another resident of the village.

A hospital doctor said that about 29 patients were admitted at 1 a.m. with complaints of vomiting and anxiety.

“I have been informed that other patients have been admitted to other hospitals. All those admitted here are currently being treated and their condition is stable and improving,” the doctor said.
