Traffic alert for Virginia: Accident on I-66 in Fairfax County blocks lanes

FAIRFAX COUNTY, Va. — An accident on Interstate 66 closed westbound lanes in Fairfax County Tuesday morning. Motorists should expect delays while the accident is investigated.

Transportation officials believe at least one person was injured in the crash. The crash was first reported around 6 a.m. on westbound I-66 at mile marker 57. That's just east of exit 55 on the Fairfax County Parkway.

Starting at 6:30 a.m., two left general lanes and all ramps to the express lanes will be closed. Delays are expected in the area. Use alternate routes if possible.

Police are still investigating what caused the accident. Although authorities say at least one person was injured, it is not yet clear how many cars were involved, how many people were injured, and how severe their injuries are.
