5 students arrested, principal injured in brawl at West Port High School, officials say

Stream FOX 35:

Five students were arrested and a principal was injured in a fight that broke out at West Port High School in Ocala on Monday, according to the school district.

A Marion County Public Schools spokesman said four students received civil citations, which “will result in physical arrest if they fail to comply with the conditions they agreed to.” Civil citations are an alternative to physical arrest for juveniles accused of a misdemeanor for the first time.

A fifth student was arrested and charged with assault on a school official. The student, whose identity was not released, was taken to the Marion County Juvenile Court facility.

The school's principal, Ginger Cruze, was “caught in the middle of the fight,” according to the school district. Cruze was treated and released from a local hospital. The extent of her injuries is currently unknown.
