33-year-old man booked into Shawnee County Jail in East Topeka in May for arson

TOPEKA, Kansas (WIBW) – A man was behind bars in the Shawnee County Jail Tuesday after being arrested this week in connection with an arson that occurred more than three months ago in East Topeka, officials said.

James Tyron Anderton, 33, was still in jail Tuesday afternoon on arson charges, authorities said.

Anderton was held on $8,000 bail in connection with the arson charge.

Prison officials said Anderton was also being held on $4,535 bail in connection with warrants out of Topeka.

Katie Garceran, spokeswoman for the Shawnee County District Attorney's Office, said Anderton was arrested in connection with an arson that occurred around 1:30 a.m. on May 6 at a business in the 900 block of SE 21st Street.

Garceran said the Shawnee County District Attorney's Office filed arson charges against Anderton on June 17.

No injuries were reported in the incident.

Officials said Topeka police arrested Anderton on Monday when he was taken to jail at 4:30 p.m.
