Shasta coroner identifies Anderson man who died in Redding crash

The Shasta County Coroner's Office released the name of an Anderson man who died after being thrown from a burning car around midnight on Sunday, August 25.

The accident occurred on Buenaventura Boulevard near Teton Drive, about a mile west of Highway 273. According to a police report, Redding police officers found a vehicle fully engulfed in flames in the middle of the roadway.

Firefighters quickly extinguished the fire while rescue workers tended to a passenger who was thrown out in the accident, police said.

First responders took 21-year-old Kannon Wayne Chaney to Mercy Medical Center in Redding after the accident, where medical personnel pronounced him dead, according to a report released Tuesday by Deputy Coroner Lt. Tyler Thompson.

A 19-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of negligent homicide following a serious crash in Redding over the weekend that left one person dead, police said.

According to Thompson, the Shasta County Sheriff's Office released Chaney's name after notifying his next of kin that he had died.
