Moulton employee Don Mitchell arrested for drug offenses

MOULTON, Alabama (WAFF) – A Moulton city employee was arrested on drug charges, police said Tuesday.

According to police, two people reported smelling a strong odor of marijuana coming from a city vehicle used by 44-year-old Don Mitchell.

Police found Mitchell at Moulton Memory Gardens. Mitchell told them he had a backpack containing a significant amount of marijuana in his work vehicle.

Police found the backpack at the location Mitchell indicated and added that inside was a plastic container with a large amount of marijuana. Numerous plastic bags were also found, police said.

Mitchell is charged with first-degree possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was taken to the Lawrence County Jail on $4,000 bail.

Mitchell was placed on leave from his job with the city.
