Will these 90s bands ever get back together?

The news that Oasis are getting back together for a reunion tour in 2025 got me thinking about what other bands from the 1990s might consider reforming. I mean, it seemed like an illusion – and for a long time it was – to think that a band like Oasis would ever get back together. But the Gallagher brothers (Liam and Noel) defied all odds, and here we are.

Below are some more bands from the 90s that I hope get back together, even if it seems unlikely or even impossible. I've also estimated the chances for each reunion.

Sonic Youth

A Sonic Youth reunion seems as unlikely as Oasis, if not more so. Liam and Noel didn't seem to like each other, and probably still don't, but they're brothers. Thurston Moore has said in the past that a reunion is on the cards, but it's weird coming out of his mouth… (Perhaps ask a certain other band member, because I highly doubt Kim Gordon would want to be in a band with her cheating ex-husband again.) Whatever happens, there's no denying Sonic Youth's influence – they made some of the best songs of the '80s and '90s.

The white stripes

Jack and Meg were already divorced when the White Stripes were at the height of their popularity, and it seems they maintain a decent relationship. He even defended her with a poem after someone posted a mean tweet about her last year. Jack White's latest album, No namereminds me a lot of the typical sound of the White Stripes. Am I imagining it? Probably, but let's keep our fingers crossed.

OutKast

The duo Andre 3000 and Big Boi are hip-hop royalty. They played a set in Atlanta earlier this year, but there's no confirmation of a real OutKast reunion…yet. Andre is currently on tour promoting his solo instrumental album. New blue sunIt would shake the hip-hop world to its core if a new OutKast album were to be released in 2024.
Chances of seeing each other again: 6/10

Daft Punk

Daft Punk’s 2021 retirement came as a shock to the music world – although the French duo’s last album, Random access memorywas released back in 2013. A reunion seems unlikely… but a week ago we probably would have said the same thing about Oasis.
Chances of seeing each other again: 4/10

Pixies with Kim Deal

The Pixies officially reunited in 2004, and founding member Kim Deal left the band for good in 2013. We love the Pixies, but let's face it – they're not quite the same without Kim. Between her work with the Breeders and her solo career (she's released a few new songs and has a solo album in the works), Deal is pretty busy, so the chances of her returning to the Pixies are slim. But you can dream.
