Teens arrested, others at large after four-day crime spree involving cars in Plymouth Township, Montgomery County

PLYMOUTH TOWNSHIP, Pa. (WPVI) — Police in Plymouth Township, Montgomery County, are investigating a variety of vehicle crimes, from car break-ins to attempted car thefts.

Four suspects are currently in custody in connection with one of the incidents, but officials believe the others involved may still be on the run.

The four-day crime spree began last Wednesday in Plymouth Township.

During this time, investigators received reports of an attempted carjacking, an attempted car theft, several car break-ins, and an attempted armed car robbery.

During the shooting, investigators also received blurry surveillance images of two suspects.

During the attempted car theft, the perpetrators are said to have used two vehicles and tried to surround a luxury car that they had targeted.

Plymouth Township Police Detective Sergeant Chris Schwartz says the victim quickly realized what was happening.

“He was able to escape the encirclement and fled. He was pursued by the vehicles for a short time before he was able to shake them off and finally get to safety,” he explained.

In the most recent incident, an attempted armed carjacking, officers happened to be in the area when the four suspects fled the scene on foot, according to Plymouth Township police.

Schwartz said a short time later, officers made a disturbing discovery.

“Our officers searched the area of the escape and recovered a loaded, stolen firearm. Fourteen rounds in the magazine and one in the chamber. The weapon was stolen from a vehicle in Philadelphia,” Schwartz said.

According to police, the four suspects were later identified and arrested.

According to authorities, three of them are 16 years old and one is 15. All four are from Philadelphia.

At this point, investigators are not sure whether all of the incidents in the crime series are connected or whether they are isolated cases with different parties involved.

According to police, the two men seen in the blurry surveillance images are not among the four teenagers arrested.

For this reason, authorities are urging people who live and work in or near central Plymouth Township to be on guard.

“We want residents to know that we expect them to be vigilant,” Schwartz said. “We want you to be vigilant. We want you to call us if you see anything, no matter how insignificant it may seem. We have officers on the streets 24/7 and we will respond to your calls.”
