Patrick Mahomes Sr. pleads guilty to drunk driving in Texas

Former MLB pitcher Pat Mahomes – the father of Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes – has pleaded guilty to driving under the influence in Smith County, Texas, his attorney told TMZ Tuesday afternoon.

“Today, Mr. Mahomes entered a guilty plea pursuant to a written agreement in his case. Our client is now living a sober life and we believe the steps he has taken to improve his life have helped us negotiate a probation recommendation,” attorney Joseph D. Murphy said in a statement.

Mahomes, 54, was arrested on February 4 after police said he showed signs of intoxication during a traffic stop.

The charge was “driving under the influence of alcohol three or more times,” meaning that as a repeat offender, Mahomes could face up to ten years in prison and a $10,000 fine.

The elder Mahomes played for six MLB teams from 1992 to 1997 and from 1999 to 2003, most notably for the Minnesota Twins from 1992 to 1996.

The younger Mahomes has won three Super Bowls with the Chiefs, including the last two.
