Man fatally shot in apparent incident of driving aggression in Indianapolis; police investigate

Police in Indiana are investigating after they say the driver of a pickup truck shot and killed a man in Indianapolis in an alleged incident of driving aggression.

Indianapolis Police Department Officer Amanda Hibschman told USA TODAY that officers responded to a report that a person had been shot at an intersection in the southeast part of the city shortly after 8 p.m. Tuesday.

Arriving officers said they found a man lying on the ground in the middle of the street with at least one gunshot wound.

The man's wife identified the shooting victim as 29-year-old Gavin Dasaur.

“I held him as he bled to death and waited for the ambulance,” the victim's widow, Viviana ZaMora, told the Indianapolis Star, part of the USA TODAY Network.

It was not immediately known where Dasaur and his wife live or what sparked the dispute.

Rescue workers took Dasaur to a hospital where he died, Hibschman said on Thursday.

“We were so in love and had a lot of plans for the future,” ZaMora told the Star, adding that the couple had recently married. “Like starting a family, enjoying our honeymoon and traveling all over the world.”

The suspected shooter, Hibschman said, was arrested at the scene.

“After further investigation and after consultation with the Marion County District Attorney's Office, the individual was released,” the police spokesman said, suggesting that the shooter may have acted in self-defense.

Video shows man shooting driver in Indianapolis road rage shooting

Cellphone photos posted online by the New York Post and Video X show a man wearing a hat, green shirt and cargo shorts approaching a white Chevrolet extended-cab pickup truck.

USA TODAY is not linking to the video because of the graphic nature of the contact.

The Post, which obtained the 7-second video of the fight, identified the man walking toward the truck as Desaur, and in at least one photo, some type of gun can be seen in the man's hand.

The video also shows the man hitting the truck before shouting at the truck driver.

At one point in the video, the truck driver fires several shots at the man outside the truck, causing him to fall to the ground.

The Marion County Coroner's Office will conduct an autopsy to determine Dasaur's manner and cause of death.

The case was still active and under investigation on Friday, police said.

Anyone who witnessed the shooting is asked to contact Indianapolis Police.
