Murder suspect literally falls into Tennessee police custody | Memphis

A murder suspect in Memphis, Tennessee, was found and arrested Monday after falling through the ceiling from the attic of the home where he was hiding, officials said.

An arrest warrant was issued in early May for the suspect, 20-year-old Deario Wilkerson, in connection with a fatal shooting in downtown Memphis on April 2, the U.S. Marshals Service said. Wilkerson was charged with first-degree murder and reckless endangerment with a deadly weapon.

On Monday, U.S. Marshals tracked Wilkerson to a residence in Memphis, officials said, and surrounded the house with assistance from the Shelby County Sheriff's Office and Memphis police.

While authorities searched the house, Wilkerson tried to hide in the attic, officials said, “but he fell through the ceiling.”

“Wilkerson was not injured in the fall and was taken into custody without further incident,” authorities added.

The Shelby County District Attorney's Office did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

In a May news release, prosecutors identified three suspects in connection with the fatal April shooting, one of whom was Wilkerson. The other two defendants were arrested in May, authorities said.
