Pilot and passenger miraculously survive a terrible accident on a busy road

A shocked pilot and passenger narrowly escaped tragedy when a small plane crashed onto a busy road in Britain, their flying club said.

Both passengers sat stunned in the cockpit just moments after the plane crashed into the A419 in Gloucestershire at 4.45pm on Tuesday afternoon, photos of the scene show.

Upon impact, one of the plane's wings broke off, debris was scattered across the road and motorists gathered behind the wreckage.

The drivers immediately got out to help the pilot and passenger, who were seen trying to escape from the damaged aircraft with the help of passersby.

The plane belonged to the Cotswold Gliding Club, of which both men are members, spokesman Chris Cooper told the Telegraph.

“Two members of the Cotswold Gliding Club have been taken to hospital for assessment with minor injuries following an incident involving one of the club’s motor gliders,” said Cooper.

The crash is currently being investigated by the Aircraft Accident Investigation Board, he said.

The Cotswold Gliding Club is one of the largest in the country and has around 150 members, according to its website.

First responders at the scene included a Great Western Air Ambulance rescue plane, the Telegraph added.

The small plane appeared to have “stalled and gone into a nosedive” before the crash, an eyewitness told Gloucestershire Live.

According to authorities, no vehicles on the ground were damaged in the accident, but the road was closed for more than five hours after authorities completed cleanup operations.
