Major setback for the Pittsburgh Steelers: regular player LG suffers chest injury

PITTSBURGH– Pittsburgh Steelers left guard Isaac Seumalo suffered a chest injury during practice on Wednesday. The severity of the injury and how long he might be out are currently being assessed. If he is out for a longer period of time, it would be a big loss for the Steelers, who have just rebuilt their offensive line.

Seumalo has been the starting left guard all through training camp and was arguably the Steelers' best offensive lineman a year ago. If he's out, either versatile offensive lineman Spencer Anderson or rookie Mason McCormick will be out. Both players had impressive summers, while Seumalo had several veteran days.

The Steelers will likely be looking to add some depth to their offensive line if Seumalo is out for an extended period of time, and given the nature of his injury, it's likely he'll be out for some time. Pectoral muscle strains or tears often take weeks to recover from, and Seumalo's loss just a week and a half before the Steelers' opener against the Atlanta Falcons would be a major blow to the team.

The Steelers aren't sure if first-round draft pick Troy Fautanu will be able to play in Week 1 after straining a medial ligament against the Houston Texans on Aug. 9. If so, he would be a boost to the Steelers' offensive line, but with so many young players likely to play, the Steelers' offensive line could have a rough start.
