Two people arrested for drug offenses in Hazel, Kentucky

HAZEL, Ky. (KFVS) – Two people are in custody after detectives executed a search warrant in Hazel, Kentucky.

According to the Calloway County Sheriff's Office, drug agents executed a search warrant on Barnett Street in Hazel around 6 p.m. on Tuesday, August 27. Two people were located in the residence.

Sammie Smock, 40, initially refused to comply with investigators' instructions but was eventually taken into custody, and Ricky Craig King, 44, was caught attempting to dispose of illegal drugs.

The suspects were accused of:

  • Smock was charged with
    • Trafficking in controlled substances in the first degree (less than two grams of methamphetamine/enhanced)
    • Possession of a controlled substance in the second degree (hallucinogen)
    • Illegal possession of the legendary drug
    • Possession of drug paraphernalia
    • Obstruction of government activities
  • King was charged with
    • Trafficking in controlled substances in the first degree (less than two grams of methamphetamine/enhanced)
    • Manipulation of physical evidence
    • Possession of a controlled substance in the second degree (hallucinogen)
    • Illegal possession of the legendary drug
    • Possession of drug paraphernalia

Both were housed at the Calloway County Detention Center.
