Independence man arrested for child pornography, police seek information

Matthew Schnapp, a 22-year-old Independence resident, was arrested Wednesday after detectives from the Kenton County Police Department's Internet Crimes Against Children Unit identified him as the owner of accounts used to upload child pornography to the Internet.

The investigation began with a tip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, which reported the accounts. The Boone County Sheriff's Office assisted with the arrest.

The Boone County Sheriff's Office assisted in Schnapp's arrest at a property in the Harvest Hill subdivision. He was charged with 30 counts of possession of child pornography and 30 counts of distribution of child pornography, both charges involving minors under the age of 12. He is currently being held at the Kenton County Detention Center and his bail has yet to be set.

The investigation is ongoing and Kenton County Police are asking anyone with information about Schnapp to call Kenton County Detective Wallace at (859) 392-1952.
