Steelers have a great chance after top guard avoids season-ending injury

There were fears that Pittsburgh Steelers left guard Isaac Seumalo had suffered a season-ending pectoral muscle injury, but the team was fortunate because Seumalo suffered a strained pectoral muscle, sources told PennLive.

Seumalo left practice on Wednesday due to an injury and will be out of action for approximately four weeks. That means his target date could be as early as Week 3 for the team's home game against the Los Angeles Chargers. The Steelers will have a more concrete prediction of when he can return after further testing, but it appears the team has avoided the worst-case scenario with the injury.

Seumalo does not require surgery and his injury is not as serious as TJ Watt's two years ago, when he missed more than the first half of the season. Either Spencer Anderson or Mason McCormick will start in his place, although it is likely Anderson will get that job since he was playing with the first team during the time Seumalo got veteran days off in training camp.

Pittsburgh already has a young offensive line and with Seumalo out for the first part of the season, the Steelers will have to rely on young talent to play at a high level.

With so many new players on offense already, it's a blow to see Seumalo out for a period of time. But it's reassuring for the Steelers that it's only for part of the season, not the entire season. They'll learn a lot about Anderson or McCormick in the process of replacing Seumalo.
