Lincoln County grand jury rejects charges against man accused of killing pregnant wife and brother

JACKSON, Mississippi (WLBT) – Family and friends of Shanecia Ferdinand, her unborn child and her brother Ladarius Rockingham tell 3 On Your Side they are looking for answers.

A Lincoln County grand jury declined to indict Kevin White, the man arrested for shooting the siblings.

According to the family, White and Ferdinand got into an argument.

Ferdinand and Rockingham's father told 3 On Your Side: “She was trying to remove her belongings from my house because they shared an apartment. He had previously grabbed her and thrown her off the porch. That's when she called her brother to help her.”

An argument broke out between the brother and White.

Ferdinand and Rockingham were both shot.

Kevin White was later arrested but is now a free man.

A Lincoln County jury decided not to indict him.

Garland and his family members are angry with the way Brookhaven police and prosecutors handled the case.

Garland said, “And we asked the prosecutor several times when he was in court. They always said nothing on the docket, nothing on the docket, nothing, until a few weeks ago when we found out they released him.”

According to the family, the reason given for not filing charges was a lack of evidence and the claim that it was self-defense.

We have contacted the district attorney and have not yet received a response.

Ferdinand and Rockingham's family is demanding that another agency take over the case.
