Rookie with new number, injury updates – NBC Sports Philadelphia

With temperatures over 35 degrees, the Eagles moved their training indoors on Wednesday afternoon.

Just as practice began, the Eagles announced the signing of 14 players from their practice squad, most of whom had been with them all summer.

Aside from the injuries (we'll get to those in a moment), the biggest news from Wednesday's brief observation window was a new number for rookie Quinyon Mitchell.

The first-round pick from Toledo has worn No. 30 since being signed by the Eagles in April, but is now wearing the No. 27 he wore in college. That number became available Tuesday afternoon when veteran cornerback/special teamer Zech McPhearson was released.

Here is a list of all Eagles players who wore number 27 in the Super Bowl era: McPhearson (2021-23), Malcolm Jenkins (2014-19), Brandon Hughes (2011-13), Quintin Mikell (2005-10), Norman LeJeune (2003), Julian Jones (2002), James Bostic (1998-99), Eric Zomalt (1994-96), Siran Stacy (1992), Topper Clemons (1987), Richard Blackmore (1979-82), Ronald “Po” James (1972-74), Irv Cross (1969)

Injury update

The Eagles don't have to issue official injury reports until next week before Week 1 against the Packers in Brazil, so nothing official.

But the following Eagles did not practice on Wednesday: Dallas Goedert (oblique), Johnny Wilson (concussion), Jalyx Hunt (oblique), Isaiah Rodgers.

Goedert, Wilson and Hunt were on the final injury report of training camp, but Rodgers is new to the list, so we don't know his injury or its severity. But all four of those guys watched practice on Wednesday without helmets. And Rodgers seemed in good spirits.

Tight end Albert Okwuegbunam is on the injured list (expected to return), but was a spectator on Wednesday. He participated in practice alongside Goedert. I did not see rookie WR Ainias Smith, who is also on the injured list (expected to return).

Other attractions

Some people wondered if new receiver Jahan Dotson would change his number after cut-down day. That didn't happen. He wore No. 87 in his first practice as an Eagle after transferring from Washington last week.

The Eagles have removed many of their signs inside the 55-yard practice bubble to make it appear larger and have installed a few permanent scoreboards.

The most important addition? A basketball hoop.
