“Gas leak” at IRGC facility in Isfahan claims numerous victims

A suspicious incident at an Iranian Revolutionary Guard facility in the central province of Isfahan has left several victims, according to an official IRGC statement.

A statement from the IRGC's Saheb al-Zaman headquarters said a “gas leak” at an IRGC “workshop” in Isfahan killed one person and injured ten others.

The statement did not provide any further details, but used the word “martyr” to describe the only victim of the mysterious incident.

It is still unclear whether the alleged “gas leak” caused an explosion. Social media users have not heard any explosion so far.

What makes the incident even more suspicious, however, is the use of the hashtag #Israel by the IRGC-affiliated Fars news agency in its initial report on the “gas leak.” The hashtag was later deleted from the agency's website, but could indicate an act of sabotage, possibly by Tehran's arch-enemy.

Isfahan is home to several important military bases and the Shahed Aviation Industries research center, which produces the Shahed-136 drones. The city also has facilities linked to Iran's nuclear program, such as the Natanz underground enrichment facility, which has allegedly been the repeated target of Israeli sabotage.

Back in April, a key part of an air defense system at an Iranian air base in Isfahan was hit by an Israeli attack that came shortly after the IRGC's massive attack on Israel. Anonymous US officials said at the time that Israeli fighter jets fired missiles over Iraqi airspace and “hit” their intended target, namely the 8th Shekari Air Base, about 20 km northeast of Isfahan and 150 km south of the nuclear facility in Natanz.

The Pictures of the Iranian air defense system S-300 showed significant damage to the fire control radar, while the missile launchers apparently remained intact.
