Google again under fire for showing minors gun-related videos on YouTube

Google is accused of not doing enough to curb the growing amount of violent content on the YouTube app.

An alarming report showed how Google failed to keep its promises to protect minors on YouTube, with the amount of gun-related content shown to minors at an all-time high. The news comes despite Google updating its policies for the firearms app in June this year.

The platform promised to change age restrictions on all videos featuring homemade firearms and automatic weapons and their accessories. Yet some videos violate the guidelines and continue to be viewed by minors on the app, the Tech Transparency Project said on Wednesday.

To prove Google's actions, the project conducted an experiment consisting of test accounts belonging to a fictional character who was 14 years old and could see everything Google promised to block according to its policies. The report also showed how potential requests related to weapons were also directed to the minor.

All kinds of videos were shown, including the latest modern inventions, automatic weapons and those using 3D technology. And as if that wasn't bad enough, they also showed how to make weapons at home from ordinary materials.

The report clearly shows that YouTube and its parent company have failed to keep their promises. They may have created positive headlines to please activists, but the reality is quite different.

Critics are now calling on the company to do more before the situation gets out of control.

YouTube is not commenting on the situation at this time. The company hopes to review the report and do some of its own research before reaching a conclusion. However, it hopes that age-appropriate content will improve over time. We don't know exactly when that will be.

The company keeps talking about their strict policies that control what kind of content can be shown on YouTube. They also keep talking about revising their policies, but as far as we know, they've been doing this for a long time.

It's amazing how easily minors can search for weapons and violent content on the internet. The fact that content is age-restricted and this still happens is questionable. What do you think?
