Yann Sommer is determined to fight for a regular place at Inter Milan and a new contract

Inter Milan may have big plans for Josep Martinez, but Yann Sommer will not give up his place without a fight.

The Swiss international joined the Nerazzurri last summer to replace Andre Onana and immediately established himself as the ultimate first choice for Simone Inzaghi, while fellow new signing Emil Audero settled for a backup role.

But while the 35-year-old did not have much competition last season, the situation could change drastically this time.

At the beginning of the summer, Inter decided to invest around 15 million euros in Martinez.

The 26-year-old has had an impressive Serie A debut season with Genoa and earned a Moving to San Siro.

This season, the plan is to confirm Sommer between the spots while giving the younger Spaniard the opportunity to play occasionally.

However, the club believes that Martinez will eventually take over the torch from the veteran and establish himself as Inter's number one.

But according to Il Corriere dello Sport via FcInter1908Sommer has no intention of giving up his office so easily.

The Swiss goalkeeper's contract with the Italian champions expires in June 2026, but he already has his eye on a new contract.

Therefore, the former Bayern Munich player is keen to achieve good results this season and prove his value to the club.

And apart from the contract issue, Sommer is also determined to keep his starting place and force Simone Inzaghi and the club to change their plans to promote Martinez next season.

This season, Sommer had a complicated first appearance in Genoa, with his mistake allowing the Grifone to take the lead in a match that ended 2-2.

Nevertheless, the experienced goalkeeper managed to keep his first clean sheet of the season against Lecce last weekend.
