Des Moines subway slowed by accident on I-80

TOMORROW, A SUNNY AND COOLER WEEKEND IS AHEAD. THANKS, JOHN. WE'LL TAKE YOU RIGHT TO THE INCIDENT THAT BRINGS TRAFFIC TO A COMPLETE STANDSTILL. THAT'S A VIEW OUTSIDE. YOU'RE LOOKING WEST. IN THE DISTANCE YOU CAN SEE A SIGN THAT TRAFFIC TO THE EAST IS COMPLETELY NOT STOPPED. AND THEN TRAFFIC TO THE WEST IS FLYING AT A SNAIL'S PACE. SO THAT'S THE INCIDENT. YOU SEE THE RIGHT CAUTION IS THERE, BUT LET'S TAKE A LOOK AT THE BACKGROUNDS. It's a parking lot on 3580. There's a backup in both directions of the highway and it all started with an incident in this construction zone. So the road is closed on Northwest 86th Street in the Urbanale neighborhood because of this incident. And we're currently seeing this traffic jam all the way to Rider Corner. So if that's part of your commute, these are terrible, terrible conditions. I would avoid it if I could, at least for the next half hour, because that's how long it's going to take to clear this traffic jam. I mean, look at that. The 3580 at Morning Star is moving so slowly. So that's a huge impact. IT'S GOING TO SLOW IT DOWN. WE'LL KEEP AN EYE ON THAT FOR YOU. THERE'S A LOT OF THINGS TURNED UP, BUT WE'RE ALSO SHOWING WHERE THE ROAD IS BLOCKED. THAT'S WHERE THE PURPLE IS DISPLAYED BECAUSE OF THE INCIDENT THAT YOU WANT TO CLEAN UP QUICKLY. CORRECT, NO.

An accident on Interstate 35/80 near 86th Street caused significant traffic delays for commuters Thursday morning. The Iowa Department of Transportation reported delays of more than 30 minutes for eastbound traffic and nearly 20 minutes for westbound traffic as lanes had to be closed due to an accident. Traffic cameras showed eastbound traffic coming to a complete standstill. Watch the video below for more information. DES MOINES, Iowa —

An accident on Interstate 35/80 near 86th Street caused significant traffic delays for commuters Thursday morning.

The Iowa Department of Transportation reported delays of more than 30 minutes in eastbound traffic and nearly 20 minutes in westbound traffic as lanes had to be closed due to an accident.

Traffic cameras showed that eastbound traffic had come to a complete standstill.

The average speed in the area was reported to be about 4 miles per hour just before 8:30 a.m.
