DeAndre Hopkins injury update for Week 1 NFL game

Tennessee Titans coach Brian Callahan remains confident that veteran receiver DeAndre Hopkins will recover from his knee injury in time to return for the Week 1 game against the Chicago Bears on September 8.

“We'll see where he is after the weekend. He's making progress. He's in good shape,” Callahan said Thursday. “It's just going to depend on how he feels next week at practice and if he can play his best. We're not going to push him back at any point. As long as he feels good and feels like he can play at a high level, he's ready to go.”

Hopkins hasn't practiced since late July because of a knee injury. The four-time All Pro has missed four weeks since his injury, meeting the timeline of the original projection for how long he would be out. Still, Callahan said he's not sure if Hopkins will practice Wednesday when the Titans begin on-field preparations for their first week of play in 2024.

Callahan sees the plan as getting the opinion of Hopkins and the Titans' athletic training staff to decide if it would be a good idea to let Hopkins play.

“Now it's time to play. It (recovery times) change a little bit,” Callahan said. “The guys tend to fight through it quicker when it's all on the line.”
