The claim that the Point Pleasant house was the scene of a “violent crime” was, according to police,

POINT PLEASANT, NJ — Point Pleasant police said a report of a “violent crime” at a home in the borough Thursday morning turned up a swatting incident, and they are working to identify the person who made the call.

Around 9 a.m., police were called to a home in the 200 block of Jaehnel Parkway. The caller reported that a violent crime had occurred at the home, Captain Christopher Leonhardt said.

Based on the first report, the police closed the streets around the house and ensured the safety of the neighbors, Leonhardt said.

“To bring the situation under control, a significant police presence has been established in the area,” he said.

However, investigators concluded that no crime had taken place in the house and that the report was a swatting incident – in which a false report is intended to provoke a heavy police operation, Leonhardt said.

“There was no evidence of an emergency or criminal activity at the residence,” he said.

“Swatting is a serious crime that endangers both residents and first responders,” Leonhardt said. “We are actively working to identify the person(s) responsible for the false report and will take appropriate legal action.”

“We appreciate the community’s patience and cooperation during this incident and want to assure our residents that the safety of our city remains our top priority,” he said.
