Officer suspended from police job for the time being during viral traffic stop in Monongah

BRIDGEPORT, W.Va (WDTV) – The investigation into Officer Nathan Lanham following a viral traffic stop earlier this month will continue for at least another month.

The West Virginia Law Enforcement Professional Standards Program held a hearing with Lanham in Charleston on Thursday morning and concluded that more information was needed before making a decision about the future course of his career.

However, Lanham is suspended, meaning he cannot work for the police until the investigation is completed.

A video released in early August shows Lanham pointing a gun at a woman during a traffic stop and then throwing her to the ground. The charges Lanham had filed against the woman were later dropped after the video went viral, and he was subsequently fired from his job at Monongah.
