Ozawkie man hospitalized after rear-end collision Thursday morning northeast of Topeka

TOPEKA, Kansas (WIBW) – A man was taken to a local hospital after a rear-end crash involving two pickup trucks northeast of Topeka Thursday morning.

The accident was reported around 8:48 a.m. Thursday on the westbound ramp to Highway NE, US-24 from Highway K-4 southbound.

According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, a 2022 Dodge Ram 2500 pickup truck was traveling southbound on K-4 onto westbound US-24 when it collided with a 2023 Chevrolet Colorado pickup truck that was braking for an unknown reason.

The driver of the Chevrolet, Randell D. Scott, 79, of Ozawkie, was taken to St. Francis Hospital with what were believed to be minor injuries. Police said Scott, who was alone in his vehicle, was wearing a seatbelt.

The driver of the Dodge, Trevor Jordan Payne, 35, of Ozawkie, and his passenger, Joseph Stiles, 30, of Grandview, Missouri, were both uninjured in the collision.

The patrol said Stiles was wearing his seatbelt. The patrol's online accident report did not indicate whether Payne was wearing a seatbelt.
