Roseburg police have arrested a man for allegedly escaping in a stolen vehicle Wednesday morning.

An RPD report stated that officers spotted a stolen vehicle at a gas station at 2200 Northeast Diamond Lake Boulevard at 11:30 a.m. When an officer pulled up behind the vehicle, the driver allegedly sped away. Officers and deputies from the Douglas County Sheriff's Office pursued the vehicle east on Highway 138 for several miles until the pursuit was terminated. The vehicle was later spotted by Oregon State Police and the driver, 28-year-old Jordan Eldridge, was arrested.

Eldridge was charged with unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, possession of a stolen vehicle, attempted eluding police in a vehicle and reckless driving. He was jailed without bail.

A Douglas County Sheriff's Office report said a victim called to report her vehicle was stolen shortly after 7:20 a.m. that morning when she left the engine running while entering a business in the 200 block of Eighth Street in Winchester Bay. A deputy later reviewed video surveillance that showed a man matching Eldridge's description getting into the vehicle and driving south on Highway 101. Eldridge is from Illinois.
