I-90 westbound remains completely closed on Mercer Island

Due to a fatal motorcycle accident, all lanes of westbound I-90 near the Mercer Island Tunnel remain closed.

Traffic is currently being diverted to Island Crest Way. There is no anticipated reopening.

According to the Washington State Patrol, the fatal accident involved a truck and a motorcycle. According to police officer Rick Johnson, the motorcyclist was speeding and crashed into the back of a UPS truck.

Police, fire brigade and other first responders are on site.

Motorists must expect long delays. The Washington State Department of Transportation expects the closure to last for some time.
