Watch Billy Bob Thornton, Demi Moore and Jon Hamm in the trailer for “Landman”

Billy Bob Thornton, Demi Moore and Jon Hamm enter the Sheridan universe.

The three main actors Landmanthe latest Paramount+ drama from Yellowstone Creator Taylor Sheridan, whose first trailer came out on Thursday.

Set “in the proverbial boomtowns of West Texas,” the series is described as “a modern-day story of the search for wealth in the world of oil rigs, a story of high and low, of bullies and wild billionaires fueling a boom so big it's changing our climate, our economy and our geopolitics.”

Thornton, who previously worked with Sheridan on 1883plays Tommy Norris and opens the trailer with an ultra-serious voiceover: “The oil and gas industry makes $3 billion in net profit every day and it's growing.”

The trailer features stunning camera shots that capture the massive scale of the industry: a pickup truck driving through an incredibly large oil field, an enormous drilling rig, and Hamm and Moore as Monty and Cami Miller at a fancy black-tie evening event.

“Before you make the money, you have to secure the land and manage the people,” Thornton's Tommy tells him, explaining how he fits into the puzzle. “That's my job. The first part is pretty easy – the second part can get you killed.”

As the drillers crawl around the drill, it suddenly explodes and the sound stops. One character stumbles as his clothes catch fire, while another is covered in soot. “The world has already convinced itself that you're evil and I'm evil,” Hamm's Monty says during a high-intensity meeting, “because we're providing them with the only thing they interact with. daily.”

“Getting oil out of the ground is the most dangerous job in the world,” says Thornton, as the trailer contrasts the relaxed, glamorous lifestyle of the wealthy characters with the thankless, exhausting work of the local people who provide their labor. “We don't do it because we like it. We do it because we're running out of options.”

From there, Armando, played by guest star Michael Peña, claims, “Everyone's whole family works in the fields,” and Cami, played by Moore, authoritatively threatens, “Roll the dice one last time.” Then we see brief glimpses of disturbing violence and thrilling danger: One character shoots another in the head with a gun, a truck explodes, Tommy punches an attacker, Monty angrily hurls his cell phone, and someone falls off the oil rig.

“Are you sticking with beer or would you like something stronger?” a bartender asks Tommy. “I've stopped drinking – I'm sticking with beer,” he replies.

“Welcome to the oil business,” says Thornton at the end of the trailer.
