“Selling Sunset” newcomer Alanna Gold explains why she owns the western town in the desert (exclusive)

Alanna Gold talks about her unique personal real estate portfolio.

Before the agent visit of the Oppenheim Group Sell sunset In the Season 8 debut (premieres Friday, September 6), Gold chatted with PEOPLE about why she decided to buy an entire town in the California desert with her husband, Adam Gold.

The 32-year-old luxury real estate agent says her and her husband's “deep connection to the desert” was the reason they bought Pioneertown – a “working” town in San Bernardino County, California, that was once an old movie set.

“We always really loved it and it was actually the place we went on one of our first trips,” Alanna says of Pioneertown. “We always knew we wanted to own a piece of land there or be part of the community in some way.”

They also saw it as an opportunity to “save” Pioneertown and its rich history.

“It needed a lot of renovation and stuff, and we really wanted to bring it back to life. So this was the opportunity to bring it back to life,” she adds.

Alanna explains the town's history to PEOPLE, saying it was “founded in the '40s” and that singer and actor Roy Rogers was involved in its founding.

She points out that the site was originally intended “not just as a film set, but as a place to live and work,” adding that it had “a bowling alley, a newsstand, a post office and residents.”

“It’s really cool because most movie sets are ghost towns, but to this day it’s still a functioning town,” she says.

According to the Sell sunset In the Season 8 trailer, Alanna takes her co-workers on a tour of the city and they all seem to stay on theme by wearing Western clothing throughout the trip.

At the beginning of the clip, Alanna casually says, “I own a little western town in the desert,” to which her fellow actress Bre Tiesi replies, “A town?”

When asked if Alanna and her husband would ever sell this unique place, the real estate agent says they have no plans to put it up for sale any time soon.

“It's something really special and I don't think we'll ever get this opportunity again,” she says. “I think it's something we're going to hold on to. We really love being a part of the desert out there.”
