Ronnie Stanley: They didn't whistle an illegal formation in both directions, they made an example of me

A Call from repeat officer On the last play of the game, the Ravens managed to score a touchdown, but decisions made by the referees on the field earlier had also attracted a lot of attention in Baltimore.

Left tackle Ronnie Stanley was penalized three times for illegal lineup and right tackle Patrick Mekari once. That wasn't a huge surprise, as referees had told teams that these infractions would be a focus this season. However, the Chiefs were never penalized for these infractions during their 27-20 victory, and Stanley took issue with what he felt was the focus of attention solely on his lineup.

Stanley said he plans to ask the league to review the decisions because he knows “my helmet broke the center's butt” and that the emphasis on the decision caused him to “stand up front more often than usual.”

“The way the game went, I really had the feeling that they were trying to make an example and selected me for it,” Stanley said via the team's website. “From what I saw, they didn't do it on both sides of the ball. I know I was in a good position with most of their decisions.”

Two of those decisions came on the Ravens' opening drive. That possession ended in a touchdown, but Stanley said the decisions “hampered” the offense and it will be interesting to see if other teams are hampered by a barrage of flags on opening weekend.
